Conversations with Joshua III

This afternoon we were coming down the stairs after naptime and I was carrying Morgan. I was encouraging Joshua to move quickly down the stairs as Morgan gets a little heavy.

Mommy: Joshua, let's keep moving, Morgan's getting heavy!
Joshua: Oh, it will hurt when you drop Morgan. She'll roll down the stairs and that will be funny, but it will hurt her and that would be too bad.
[emphasis added]

Apparently he enjoys physical comedic gags. At least he would feel bad about his sister getting hurt. I also enjoy that he is certain that I will be dropping Morgan.

Conversations with Joshua II

About a week ago I found pen marks the arms of both our couch and the loveseat. I called Joshua over and asked him what happened. He said to me, "I was tricking you, Mommy." Oh lovely!

Yesterday we were driving through a parking lot and Joshua saw the same make, model, and color of my car. He immediately started insisting that we were going to drive a new car home. Why he would pick the same old car, but he was sure determined. It didn't matter how I explained about how buying cars went, he was going to go home in that new car. He was pretty broken up when he had to claim into the same old car he came in. Poor thing!

Last night Joshua and Morgan were fighting a whole lot. After Morgan went to bed I wanted to pull Joshua aside and try to talk to him about getting along better with his sister.
Mommy: Joshua we need to talk about what happened tonight with you and Morgan
Joshua: Okay Mommy. This and this and this happened and and and.... this and this and and and this.
About 5 minutes later he finished his account of everything that had been said or done that evening. Then he says to me, "Okay Mommy, I'm done." He proceeded to continue playing with his toys. Apparently he had a few things he needed to get off his chest too.
I'm thinking, well I'm glad we had that talk.

Today we went to Lee Lee's Oriental Market in Chandler. It's a fascinating place if you've never been, but since I don't know what a 1/4 of the ingredients are I have only ever bought panko bread crumbs there. It's full of new and interesting sights and smells. Anyways, this was Joshua's first time there and as we were walking around he kept saying to me, "Mommy this is spooky."
Then as we were browsing the aisles he picked up a bag of brown mystery product that was right at his arm level. He kept asking what it was, and when I finally examined more closely, I determined it was chewing tobacco. AWESOME! Too bad the camera was at home. I'd definitely be attaching that snap shot with my Mother of the Year nomination packet.

He is such a character!

Conversations with Joshua I

This is the conversationwe had in the car today...

J: Mommy, I need some money.
M: You do? What do you need money for?
J: I want to give the money to you mommy.
M: That's nice, but what do I need money for?
J: ummm, to buy stuff with.

On Sunday I was having a conversation with my 4 year old niece about why her Mommy works. Apparently part of that conversation stuck with Joshua.
Too funny...

America's Next Top Baby Model

About two weeks ago I made this skirt for Morgan. I was trying desperately to get a good picture of her wearing the skirt where you can also see the button flower that I sewed on for embellishment. She was not cooperating at all. Ryan took this snapshot, and I love it. You can't see the skirt very well, but I think Morgan looks very "model-esque." I'm thinking Italian Vogue, or maybe she could be the spokesbaby for Crocs. She is after all showing off their product so well. (Someone watches America's Next Top Model if you couldn't tell)

Later I'll take a pic of the skirt on the hanger, and then post about all my recent craft endeavors. :)

Ryan knew it all along....

Ryan has always had a few rules about names which I was informed of before we got married.
1. We will call our child by the name we give them. IE - Joshua is not Josh, he is Joshua.
2. We will not name a child anything that will foresee-ably get them teased or singled out. (IE Crystal Shanda Leer, and other wacky names you may have heard of.)

Well it looks like Ryan was right all along. Some researchers in Pennsylvania determined that Boys with unusal names are more likely to commit crimes as adolescents.

Laugh or Cry

So I had one of those moments today with Joshua where you don't know whether to laugh or cry. I had taken the kiddies to my Mom's house and left Ryan home for some R&R. As we were leaving Grandma's I told Joshua we were going home to see Daddy. His response was, "I want to pick a new home."
I chose to laugh. In fact, I laughed rather heartily.
I think it's because every night when Joshua hears it is bed time, he immediately starts whining that he wants to pick a new book to read. I'm not sure why he whines because he gets to read whatever book he wants every night, but that is how it goes.

In other laugh or cry news, Morgan was exploring the house and it got quiet. I tracked her down and she had her hands in the toilet water. Ick! We are usually very good about keeping the door closed and I guess I need to work on keeping the lid down too.

Who's in Charge Here?/Push Over Mommy

The pictures could speak for themselves, but I love some commentary. Nothing goes better with a nice episode of Dora the Explorer than some Cheetos and a fine apple juice.

I think he's high on the all the Cheesy goodness. Check out that mouse. Yummy!

I think this guilty face says it all. Don't Snack and Surf!

Ryan took this picture this morning. Isn't the sunrise beautiful? I love this weather!!!

Washua so funny!

Joshua says some of the funniest things recently. Here are a few of them.

Yesterday I started the project of cleaning out the pantry to organize everything and make space for all the food I bought at Fry's case lot sale. I didn't get everything back in pantry yesterday so the living room had quite a bit of food in rows on the floor. When Joshua got up this morning, he looked down the stairs and said, "Oh NO! What a mess! Food on the floor!"

Last night we were trying to get Joshua to tried a "grilled cheese tortilla," since he loves grilled cheese sandwiches, but won't touch a quesadilla. He put up a big fight but Ryan made him try it anyways. As soon as he took a bite he said, "YUMMY! Need more!"

All this evening he has been saying, "Washua is so funny!"

Part of his bedtime routine is rocking in the glider and having us sing a few songs to him in the dark. Well recently he sings to us and if we try to sing along he says, "Washua sing!" and then he starts the song over again.

All day today he keeps saying, "Morgan Happy! Morgan stopped crying." He says it even if she hadn't been crying recently.

Tonight he was eating Corns. So cute!

Here's my favorite. The other day he had a crayon in the backseat with him. He starts saying "Mommy, what happened?" I was driving and couldn't take too close a look, so I told him it was okay that the paper had just ripped. As we were pulling into the driveway he starts saying something about putting the crayon in his mouth.
Well as it turns out, what happened to his crayon is that he took a little nibble of the end of the crayon. Oh dear!

A day of firsts

Well we had two big "firsts" in our family today.
1. Today was the first time we gave Morgan and Joshua a bath together. They thought it was a really good time especially since Joshua doesn't always like his sister.

2. During this bath, Morgan pooped in the tub for the very first time. Eww yuck! The craziest part was that Ryan was practically giddy because now I knew what it was like to go through the ordeal of cleaning up the mess and being all grossed out. This is how things went down
A: Oh no, she's pooping! What should I do? Drain the water?
R: No, we have to document this. [Grabs the camera, SNAP, SNAP]
R: Now you can pick the poop out of the water and drain the tub.
A: [Handles the dirty work, cleans everything up, and gets the kids back in the tub.]

I was seriously going to hurl. I do have a new appreciation for Ryan's poopy tub experience
However I think I had it way worse because Morgan's poops are pretty loose. Ryan took the pictures and it is at his insistance that I post his "documentation."

Scroll down past it if you think that is totally repulsive and insane. There is a post of some cute pictures of the kids below this one, so don't skip that.

Okay, you should be safe now..... Oh the things I blog about.

Something stinks in Neverland

Ryan wanted to be sure I blogged about this, I think it is because it was me doing a major dumb thing.

Joshua is going to be Peter Pan for Halloween, and Morgan is Tinkerbell. Joshua's super fancy costume from the Disney Store did not come with a hat, (they love to milk you for every penny they can), so I decided to make one. I went to the craft store and bought some felt and all the fixings to make a hat. I took his costume to the store with me so that I could find matching material. The whole costume and my purchases were in a bag in my car. My car was a pit and so I cleaned it out because I was taking it to the car wash.

Cut to the next day.

During nap time I got a bee in my bonnet to start making Joshua's hat. I started looking around for the bag with everything and I can't find it anywhere. I didn't worry about it too much and figured I'd find it later. The whole thing was really nagging at me though and so I decided to look again. Still couldn't find it, but it suddenly hit me that I had thrown a bunch of stuff in our outside trash can and it was trash day. (Cue ominous music)

I ran outside and thank my lucky stars, the trash man had not come yet. I bet you can guess, that I found my bag with about $40+ worth of costume and supplies in the trash can. I bet you can also imagine the smell. I've got two kids in diapers after all. I dumped the contents of the bag on my living room floor and vacated the area. Thankfully it wasn't anything too tough for a lot of Febreze.

I know it's a little thing in the grand scheme of things, but I know that it was the Spirit's promptings that helped me rescue his costume before it was too late.

Let it me known that Joshua HATES the hat, but I did my part. Here are some pictures from the kids Halloween photo shoot. Tink #2 is my cutie niece Samantha. She's actually going to be Jasmin this year, but she was Tinkerbell last Halloween.

Sisters in Blogging

Yesterday I had several mental leaps and ended up thinking it would be cute to change the lyrics of "As Sisters in Zion" to "As Sisters in Blogging."

I've also included the actual music should you feel the desire to sing it. (click on the picture to see it full size.) You can listen to just the tune of the song at http://www.lds.org/churchmusic/ using the Interactive Music system.

If you think it is cute or funny, please feel free to pass it on. Do please include a link back to my blog or my name. Please enjoy!

Toddler Ninja Warrior

You may remember this post, where I first mention Ninja Warrior. Well we thought we'd put Joshua through our own qualifying round to see if he has the stuff to be a future Ninja Warrior. We found a nice replica of the Dancing Stones at the park. Here is a picture of the real thing.

We are joining the action right after a near fall on the dancing stones.

Can he recover?? OH NO!! His foot has touch the sand. He is disqualified.

Here he is contemplating his future fate as a Ninja Warrior. Next time perhaps, next time.

Howler Monkey sees a howler monkey

My parents and I took the kids to the zoo and we got to see and hear the Howler monkeys. I wish I had taken a video because it is pretty crazy to hear them going. I thought it was a recording. It's funny because we call Joshua a howler monkey from time to time. I took a picture of Joshua pointing at their enclosure. I have also put a link to a youtube video so you can hear a real howler monkey.

Ninja Warrior

Around our house we have recently become a bit obsessed with a show called Ninja Warrior. It's an obstacle type show from Japan that they show on G4 TV. It's in Japanese with English subtitles.
Now here is some background info. Every time we turn on the TV Joshua starts yelling Dora or Pablo(The Backyardigans) because that is what he wants to watch. Well today I turned on the TV and in response to Joshua's yelling I said, "We are going to watch Ninja Warrior right now." Here comes the good part. Joshua then started running around yelling, "HI-YAW! (A karate chop sound, that's my best stab at spelling it.) It has nothing to do with the show itself, but he apparently knows what a Ninja is.

Awesome!

And before you ask, yes, we watch too much television at our house.

Game Day

A few weeks ago my niece said the funniest thing and I keep forgetting to blog about it. We were at my Mom's house and she and Joshua were watching Baby Einstein in my parents room. Samantha came into the living room and said, "Grandma, I NEED to watch the game." I just died laughing. It was so funny because it was the weekend after the Super bowl. Turns out she wanted to watch a computer game, but it was still hilarious.

Sir Poops a lot

If you get grossed out easily, I recommend skipping this one....

I love my dear sweet husband, he sure does put up with a lot of crap. Literally. Last night he was bathing Joshua and Joshua, being the super regular child that he is, decided to do his business in the tub. I was tempted to take a picture, but to be quite honest it really grossed me out.
Ryan recounted the whole grisly scene for me later and it gets even better. As Ryan was trying to clean up the mess, Joshua decided to be the good helper that he is and picked up nice big chunk out of the tub. Thus making smaller chunks and prolonging the yuckiness.

From the mouth of babes

Three posts in one day! Wowee!

Here are funny things kids have said recently that I think are worth remembering.

In primary, the younger children were asked if you could get baptized when you were older than 8 years old. This confused them a bit because they are used to being told that they will get baptized when they turn 8. One boy raised his hand and said, "I think you can get baptized when you are older than 8 because I went to the baptism of that new lady a few weeks ago and she is WAY older than 8." (We had a convert baptized into our ward a few weeks ago and she is probably in her fifties.)

Ryan's coworker told Ryan this story. Coworker took his 4 year old soon to see a new cartoon move that just recently came out. His son really loved the movie and told his Dad that he really needed to get this movie for him. So as not to disappoint his son, the coworker obtained a screener copy of the movie and they took it with them on a camping trip so the young boy would have something to watch in the car.
As the boy is watching this movie in the car he says to his Dad, "This movie is still in the theaters. I shouldn't be watching it. You had better take it back to the store. "
You have to love a four year old with a strong moral compass.
