This afternoon we were coming down the stairs after naptime and I was carrying Morgan. I was encouraging Joshua to move quickly down the stairs as Morgan gets a little heavy.
Mommy: Joshua, let's keep moving, Morgan's getting heavy!
Joshua: Oh, it will hurt when you drop Morgan. She'll roll down the stairs and that will be funny, but it will hurt her and that would be too bad.
[emphasis added]
Apparently he enjoys physical comedic gags. At least he would feel bad about his sister getting hurt. I also enjoy that he is certain that I will be dropping Morgan.

The Stock Shop
As I mentioned in my last post. We picked Papa Darv up from work one day and gave him a ride home. Thankfully my FIL mentioned that they had lots of baby animals that Joshua might want to take a look at. He loved going to Papa Darv's work. I'd never been there either, so it was pretty fun to see that it was so picturesque.
I asked Joshua to count the number of chicks. He gave up at 14.
This was probably Joshua's favorite animal. It was "fluffy bunny." He even stopped a random customer and told them to look at the fluffy bunny. It is a Lion Head rabbit. Furry little guy.

Conversations with Joshua II
About a week ago I found pen marks the arms of both our couch and the loveseat. I called Joshua over and asked him what happened. He said to me, "I was tricking you, Mommy." Oh lovely!
Yesterday we were driving through a parking lot and Joshua saw the same make, model, and color of my car. He immediately started insisting that we were going to drive a new car home. Why he would pick the same old car, but he was sure determined. It didn't matter how I explained about how buying cars went, he was going to go home in that new car. He was pretty broken up when he had to claim into the same old car he came in. Poor thing!
Last night Joshua and Morgan were fighting a whole lot. After Morgan went to bed I wanted to pull Joshua aside and try to talk to him about getting along better with his sister.
Mommy: Joshua we need to talk about what happened tonight with you and Morgan
Joshua: Okay Mommy. This and this and this happened and and and.... this and this and and and this.
About 5 minutes later he finished his account of everything that had been said or done that evening. Then he says to me, "Okay Mommy, I'm done." He proceeded to continue playing with his toys. Apparently he had a few things he needed to get off his chest too.
I'm thinking, well I'm glad we had that talk.
Today we went to Lee Lee's Oriental Market in Chandler. It's a fascinating place if you've never been, but since I don't know what a 1/4 of the ingredients are I have only ever bought panko bread crumbs there. It's full of new and interesting sights and smells. Anyways, this was Joshua's first time there and as we were walking around he kept saying to me, "Mommy this is spooky."
Then as we were browsing the aisles he picked up a bag of brown mystery product that was right at his arm level. He kept asking what it was, and when I finally examined more closely, I determined it was chewing tobacco. AWESOME! Too bad the camera was at home. I'd definitely be attaching that snap shot with my Mother of the Year nomination packet.
He is such a character!

On Sunday I was having a conversation with my 4 year old niece about why her Mommy works. Apparently part of that conversation stuck with Joshua.

All about Joshua - UPDATED WITH ANSWERS
Joshua is getting to the point in his development where he is soaking up everything and lots of times he says the funniest things.
Today at Costco he was so excited to tell me there was sign that had the letters O-P-E-N. We were talking about how that spelled 'open' and what it meant. By the end of our trip if you asked him to spell open he would or if you said what does o-p-e-n spell he knew it was open.
Ryan came home and we showed him our new skill so Ryan was teaching him how to spell Dog. Joshua was really enjoying this and was asking to do more words. Ryan asked what word he wanted to learn and he said Clouds. How random is that? He is such a cutie.
The other day we saw a Fire Department truck that wasn't actually a "Fire Truck." It was a little shorter than a regular truck and didn't have hoses or anything, but it was pretty big and bright red. I pointed the Fire Truck out to Joshua and he said, "that's not a fire truck!" We were both traveling down baseline, so after a minute or two, Joshua says, "Mommy, the not firetruck is following us!" What a character.
One last story, we are trying soooo hard to get Joshua completely potty trained. He doesn't have any wet accidents, but he refuses to poop in the toilet. (He actually refuses to poop anywhere, so it's doubly hard.) Anyway, this morning I was asking if we going to poop in the toilet today and he said, "Hmmmm, maybe later mommy." We might be guilty of saying that to him sometimes. It's so funny how his mannerisms and behaviors point out some of the things we do as parents that we didn't even realize.

His speech skills have greatly improved but there are still a few words he can't quite say. (some of these he can say now, but couldn't for a long time.) See if you can guess what he means..

Almost well
Things at our house are finally looking up. After spending the last week with everyone sick, I'm happy to say we managed an outing to the grocery story today. The random observer might think we aren't the healthiest bunch, but compared to where we were, it's wonderful.
Here is Joshua passed out yesterday on the couch. He had I both slept in until about 10:30am. It was wonderful but that meant I didn't get a sub for primary. Oops.
You can tell he must not be feeling good because he never ever just passes out like that. Poor baby boy.
Later he fell asleep the same way in the front room. When I woke him up he had three wet spots he left on the couch: snot, drool, and head sweat. Good times.

Terrific 3's???
I've been trying to write down some of the funny things Joshua has been saying recently. Here are a few of my favorites.
Morgan trying to play with Joshua's trains
Joshua: "Morna stop fighting me! Morna want can't have Joshua's trains."
(After that he started telling everyone to stop fighting him)
Mommy wiping Morgan's nose
Joshua: "Is Morna's face running?"
Mommy: "Joshua, think about going pee-pee and then maybe some pee pee will come out."
Joshua:" Shhhh, listen." (Hand cupped around ear so he can hear if he is peeing.)
As we are driving down the road.
Joshua: "MOMMY! MOMMY! You a good driver. Cause we don't want to crash."
On a walk around the block with Daddy after dinner.
Joshua: "Daddy, where the moon go?"
Daddy: "It's hiding."
Joshua: "Oh, it's hiding in the bushes."
He has become the master procrastinator. Anytime we ask him to do something, he says he needs to do something else first. Such as:
Mommy: Joshua, it's time to go potty.
Joshua: No, I need to hold woof-woof(stuffed puppy) first.
He comes up with every excuse in the book. At least he is learning the order of things, (first, second, next, last, etc)
He is also getting pretty defiant. At least 10 times a day when you ask him to do something he says "No I NOT!" Then if I have to resort to counting to 3 before I do it for him, he starts yelling, "No, Don't say it."
I think he's getting too clever for my own good!

Train Pit bait and switch
You may or may not remember that Joshua got a Thomas ball pit for Christmas. Well I got a smoking deal on the ball pit and wasn't too worried when it said it only came with 50 balls. That's enough right?
WRONG! Here is what 50 balls looked like.
Not enough to even cover the bottom of the pit with one layer.
Thankfully, not all was lot. His grandparents saw how much joy this toy brought him, knew we were having a bunch of kids to our house on new years, and just plain wanted to be the best grandparents they could be. So..... they bought more balls. A lot more balls in fact. 500 more balls if we want to get all exact and everything. Here is the after shot.
You can buy this same ball pit on Amazon(their's does have 75 balls) for $70. I got mine online for only $15 at KB Toys. However 500 more balls cost $50.
Speaking of Joshua's train obsession. Here is the latest formation that his enabler(Daddy) set up for him.
It does cause some potty training issues however, because Joshua is insistent that he plays with the tracks BEFORE he goes to the bathroom in the morning.
I do like how Ryan enjoys when Joshua gets new track just as much as Joshua does. It also does wonders to keep them both out of my hair. :)

Potty Training
Well we have officially started potty training. I'm trying the cold turkey method, IE putting him in underwear and working it out from there.
So far he has refused to sit on his potty seat. I do mean REFUSED. We've practiced having his puppy go potty on the seat, but no dice. No accidents, but it's only been a half an hour.
I'm not convinced that he's ready, so today may just have to be an experiment and we'll try again soon.
If any potty vets have some advice, please do share. Especially if you have potty trained a boy.

Joshua is 3!
I can hardly believe it, but Joshua turned 3 yesterday. We went to the zoo on his big day to see the animals and hang out with Grandma and Grandpa. Grandpa was working the later shift, which Joshua was ecstatic about. As soon as he saw Grandpa in the car he said, "Grandpa doesn't have to work anymore!!"
We did Stingray bay again which he LOVED. We were the only people in there. I also got smart this time and brought an extra shirt since I knew that Joshua's would get wet from putting his belly on the wall. It was pretty cold to be at the zoo at 9:30, but we had a great time.
The major highlight was that the bear got so close to us. He was right on the other side of the window playing with a box.
After a long time at the zoo we went to lunch at a sports grill called Sneakers that has a lunch buffet. It was an experience. There were hardly any customers. I kept waiting for Gordon Ramsay to pop out of the kitchen yelling, "Shut it down."
On the way home we got to see a very rare animal. It was the elusive "Morgan sleeping in car seat." She NEVER falls asleep in the car. Her lips look all nice and luscious because the dessert at the buffet was red jello cups.
Joshua's party is on Saturday, so that should be a lot of fun. He is very excited about it too. Every time he gets up in the morning or after a nap he says, "Go to party now?"
Now that Joshua is a Big boy, he is going to start potty training on Monday. I am terrified. We will see who cracks first.

Laugh or Cry
So I had one of those moments today with Joshua where you don't know whether to laugh or cry. I had taken the kiddies to my Mom's house and left Ryan home for some R&R. As we were leaving Grandma's I told Joshua we were going home to see Daddy. His response was, "I want to pick a new home."
I chose to laugh. In fact, I laughed rather heartily.
I think it's because every night when Joshua hears it is bed time, he immediately starts whining that he wants to pick a new book to read. I'm not sure why he whines because he gets to read whatever book he wants every night, but that is how it goes.
In other laugh or cry news, Morgan was exploring the house and it got quiet. I tracked her down and she had her hands in the toilet water. Ick! We are usually very good about keeping the door closed and I guess I need to work on keeping the lid down too.

Halloween, Halloween, we love Halloween!
It is a little bit of old news now, but here is how our Halloween went.
We went out to Ryan's parents house and did some Trick or Treating with his Sister Tiffany and her son Capper. He was Buzz Lightyear. The boys were really cute together.
Joshua is a professional Trick or Treater now. He would ring the doorbell, thrust out his bag, get the candy, and then take off running for the next house. He kept saying, "Come on Capper!" because Capper was just not keeping the pace.
After the trick-or-treating we went back to Ryan's parents and ate some yummy Chalupa and just had a really nice time together as a family. Charlie and Misty and their kids were there as well as Nanna and Taisei. The kids played in one room and the adults were in the other. It was awesome!
Joshua and Capper decided to climb under Grandma Becky's old desk and play. Taisei was more into the awesome pink roller skates.
We didn't leave East Mesa until after 9pm! That is way too late for our kids, but everyone was having such a great time. All things considered, it was a pretty smooth car ride home and Morgan didn't scream the whole way.
Halloween 2008 is officially put to rest. I can't wait for next year when Morgan is walking around too. It will be great!

Halloween Festivities Part 1
I strongly believe in getting a lot of use out of a Halloween costume and so we have quite a packed Halloween schedule. Saturday we went to boo at the zoo with my sister and her family.
Saturday night was our ward Halloween party. Here are some pictures from our busy, busy day.

Discovery Channel Moment
We went to the zoo today with April and Mason and had a total blast. Joshua and Mason were so cute together. Joshua would follow Mason wherever he went and kept saying, "Come on Mason." It was so precious. They were even holding hands part of the time.
I love these pictures because it has their cute little shadows too.
Mason found a photo booth, so Joshua was more than happy to play in the booth too.
Here's one of Morgan. Poor girl got ignored in her stroller a lot. She didn't mind too much though.
Lest I forget that the zoo is supposed to be an educational place, the Galapagos Tortoise's gave us an interesting education indeed. Once you get past the giggle factor, it was pretty crazy because the Mommy turtle was walking all around the exhibit with that big old dude on her back. You may not be able to tell from this picture, but he is way bigger than her.
I would have to say this is one of the more successful trips I have taken to the zoo. Everyone had a good time and there were no meltdowns!

Washua so funny!
Joshua says some of the funniest things recently. Here are a few of them.
Yesterday I started the project of cleaning out the pantry to organize everything and make space for all the food I bought at Fry's case lot sale. I didn't get everything back in pantry yesterday so the living room had quite a bit of food in rows on the floor. When Joshua got up this morning, he looked down the stairs and said, "Oh NO! What a mess! Food on the floor!"
Last night we were trying to get Joshua to tried a "grilled cheese tortilla," since he loves grilled cheese sandwiches, but won't touch a quesadilla. He put up a big fight but Ryan made him try it anyways. As soon as he took a bite he said, "YUMMY! Need more!"
All this evening he has been saying, "Washua is so funny!"
Part of his bedtime routine is rocking in the glider and having us sing a few songs to him in the dark. Well recently he sings to us and if we try to sing along he says, "Washua sing!" and then he starts the song over again.
All day today he keeps saying, "Morgan Happy! Morgan stopped crying." He says it even if she hadn't been crying recently.
Tonight he was eating Corns. So cute!
Here's my favorite. The other day he had a crayon in the backseat with him. He starts saying "Mommy, what happened?" I was driving and couldn't take too close a look, so I told him it was okay that the paper had just ripped. As we were pulling into the driveway he starts saying something about putting the crayon in his mouth.
Well as it turns out, what happened to his crayon is that he took a little nibble of the end of the crayon. Oh dear!

Riding in Style / Primary Program
We took a trip to the mall last week and to our utter surprise, Joshua wanted to play with all the cars they have there. He didn't actually want them to move, so that is nice for our pocketbook.
These pictures are mostly for my Mom, because she would never believe that Joshua climbed in all these cars willingly and had a great time playing. You can tell he had a good time because out of about 20 or so pictures, I could only get him to look at me for one.
Sunday was the primary program and I think it went pretty well. The practices leading up to the program were pretty chaotic, but as usual, the kids pulled it off. We've been in the ward for 5 primary programs and I have been the pianist for the primary program for the last 3 of them. I hope that one day I can sit in the audience and watch instead of participating. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
My parents came and helped entertain the kids so Ryan wouldn't be all stressed out. It was very nice of them and they did a good job at keeping everyone entertained. I only heard Morgan singing along a few times while I was up at the piano.

Princess Stinkeye & Other Tales
It's been awhile since I have posted some of the random pictures from what is going on around here, so here we go.
1. "Go ahead and cross me, I DARE you! I'm princess stink eye and I mean business. "
2. "Oh wait, I mean I'm sweet as can be!"
3. Morgan and Joshua before church.
4. Another shot from before church. They are both leaning forward and somehow it just makes Joshua look like a little person. It's very weird how the proportions turned out.
5. Here's Morgan in her wig. I didn't love how it looked so I didn't want the wig in her official pictures. I was afraid it would take away from her cute little smile and costume. It is hilarious though.
